Anguélina Vatcheva: "Les Mémoires de Cathérine la Grande: entre féminité et masculinité narratives"

Abstract:

An attempt is made in this paper to analyse certain aspects of the narration in the Memoirs of Catherine II, using the methodology of the SATOR. We can distinguish two discourses in the text: «public», which is associated with the «masculine» discourse of the Russian literature of the 18th century and «novelist», which refers to the description of the private life of the memoir writer. The latter type of discourse has many topoi typical of the presentation of the life of women. These have been taken from the European novel tradition from the 18th century, and they constitute the «feminine» discourse in the narration.
