Donna Kuizenga: "La généricité dans Les Mémoires de la vie de Henriette-Sylvie de Molière de Madame de Villedieu"
Abstract:
This essay studies gender in the semi-autobiographical novel by Madame de Villedieu, Les Mémoires de la vie de Henriette-Sylvie de Molière. Looking at the question of gender at the level of individual topoi not only allows us better understand Villedieu's positions, but also how the SATOR database can be used in this kind of inquiry. Two texts are examined in detail, the first two parts of the Mémoires and one of the interpolated tales taken from Carmente. The comparison of the two texts reveals the extent to which genre inflects gender.
