European Women Writers, present in 19th-century Finland?

Abstract:

This contribution globally presents the European COST Action "Women Writers In History" (WWIH), which has started recently (2009-2013). A meeting of the Working Group members is to take place during the days preceding the ISCH conference.

In my contribution, which will take as as starting point the Finnish reception of women's writing, comparing it to the Netherlands, I will present the online tool we are using in our collaboration: a database which will be further developed during the years to come, but which already allows us to get quantitative overviews - per country, per genre, per gender etc. - of women's literary production and reception. These overviews provide points of departure for further, qualitative, analysis. Periods concerned: the centuries preceding 1900; literatures concerned: most of European cultures (in particular at the final stage of the Action...); countries concerned: researchers from 23 countries participating at present (five of whom also contributing to the session organized by WWIH).
