Ele Carpenter



Ele Carpenter is an artist and curator based in the UK. She currently lectures on the MFA in Curating at Goldsmiths College, University of London. She completed her PhD on politicized socially engaged art and new media art in 2008 with CRUMB at the University of Sunderland, UK; and has recently completed a post-doctoral fellowship with HUMlab at Umea University, Sweden. Ele is the curator of the Open Source Embroidery project investigating the relationship between craft and code, including the international touring exhibition at BildMuseet, Sweden, and the Museum of Craft & Folk Art in San Francisco 2009-2010. Recent articles include ‘Activist Tendencies in Craft’ (Cox, Haq, Trevor, 2010). Ele is currently establishing a Nuclear Culture Network to investigate the cultural implications of dismantling nuclear submarines in the UK.
