Dilemme, ou la condition des femmes

Abstract:

In my comment on Letters of Mistress Henley, I try to establish a link between the dynamics of the novel and the way sexual identities are represented. The dilemma appears to be a key figure as it illustrates Mistriss Henley’s condition : she appears to be caught in a double bind which permits no escape. That is the way Isabelle de Charrière represents the female condition.
