Géographies dans Trois femmes

Abstract in English:

This article focuses on the structure of the space in Isabelle de Charrière's Trois femmes. The term "space" must be considered both physically and geographically, but also as the intellectual sphere in which the characters meet with the ebb and flow of intimacy, subjectivity, their conscience and the relationships with others. Constance, Emilie and Joséphine have their own, characteristic, relationship with space. The movements of characters, both past and present, must be associated with the meandering of a "me" that is searching herself. Wandering most often signifies conflict and rupture, while sedentariness implies inner peace.
