Saints or Writers: Female Reception in European and bibliographic Latin Inventories

Abstract

Our purpose is to present a survey of Latin inventories both biographic, under the category of Vitae, and bibliographic in order to identify a pattern on the portraits, where the reception of the women and their work can be defined in qualitative (linguistic) terms.

These Inventories reflect the impact of women writers in Europe (both presence and absence of some women deserve an interpretation) and are also a source to understand their status in the Republic of Letters; the typified portraits - as far as the sample studied allows presenting conclusions - will be compared to the language used in vernacular inventories.
