Antoinette de Salvan
La présence d'Antoinette de Salvan dans le champ littéraire de son époque peut se caractériser par le topos de la dénonciation d'injustices, en particulier d'injustices à l'égard du sexe féminin. Ses visées ne sont donc pas littéraires en premier lieu. Notamment ses prises de position exprimées dans le Mercure Galant, où elle propose de créer une "secte" de femmes savantes, ont donné lieu à une présentation de cette auteure comme une féministe bien avant la lettre. Linda Timmermans a apporté ici une nuance importante: le "féminisme" de tout le groupe dont faisait partie Antoinette de Salvan, serait à caractériser comme profondément conformiste. Mais d'après Siep Stuurman, il faudrait étudier son oeuvre en rapport avec les écrits de Poulain de la Barre, son contemporain. Cette même remarque s'appliquerait à son oeuvre narrative intitulée La Comtesse d'Isembourg (1678).
