Abstract
The "history of Nordic Women’s literature" was a project managed by a Nordic editorial committee of 10 members, the chief editor, Elisabeth Møller Jensen and coordinating editor, my humble self. The research was published from 1993-1998 in the five volumes of Nordic Women’s Literary History.
Elisabeth Møller Jensen describes the idea of an integrated Nordic literary history in this way: "However, before the idea to expand into a Nordic project came into being, the idea to write an integrated Nordic history of literature arose. This was because it seemed that as soon as we began to discuss specific texts, literary trends or whole bodies of work, the desire to return to one's national base began to fade away. The Nordic meetings were truly inspirational, as they were held within a fertile professional community where scholars with common interests could mutually enhance and broaden their understanding of a particular period, a particular idea by discussing unknown but similar material".
It is 10 years since the research project on Nordic women’s literary history was completed and the five volumes have already several years ago been recognized as a standard academic reference. The printed edition is sold out and we have found that a second edition should be presented in a media that is accessible to young readers. We also want to translate our five volumes into English so that this result of Nordic research could be known by an international audience. That is why we have decided to create a new web-edition of the Nordic Women’s literary history in Danish/Swedish and English.
