Abstract Alenka Jensterle Doležal
Autobiographical characteristics of the female hero - between stereotype and modern psychology
In the focus of my interest there are two small short stories: Planinska idila (The Mountain Idyll, 1895) of the Slovene author Pavlina Pajk (1854- 1901) and Nalezení dia? (The Found Diary, 1897) of the Czech authorAnna ?ehaková (1850-1937). The paper will analyse the psychological portraits of the female heroes and their relations to themselves and the others. Their texts will be interpreted in the context of their work and the literal movements of their time. The main problem, which has to be solved in the narrative perspective, is the interpretation of marriage which reflects the patriarchal agendas in the 19th century as part of the cultural context. In the texts we can also find the idea of feminism. Both female authors were influenced by German narrative models. At that time in Czech culture, the position of female authors was established after the great personality of Božena N?mcová. However, in Slovene culture where women authors were just marginal phenomena, Pavlina Pajk belonged to the first generation of female authors. Both of the authors were not accepted in the national literary space.
I would like to show the position of female authors of two small cultures which were almost unknown in their time, but whose works can still be understood as part of the European realism movement in the 19th century.
