Modern inventories

Modern inventories - online or on paper - of literary or written production, per period and/or per country, are useful starting points for our kind of research. They have of course the advantage of allowing (for those who are patient) more or less global evaluation of the percentages of female production as compared to male. Information included in online overviews can be directly linked to the records of the author or work under consideration.

Inventories are classified by category:

  • Narrative fiction:
    • Angus Martin, Vivienne Mylne, Richard Frautschi, Bibliographie du genre romanesque français: 1751-1800. Paris, 1977.

Is presently being used in order to trace French works by women and French translations of foreign women's works in the second half of the 18th century.

    • M. Buisman J.F.zn, Populaire prozaschrijvers van 1600 tot 1815. Romans, novellen, verhalen, levensbeschrijvingen, arcadia's, sprookjes. Amsterdam, s.d. [1960]. In DBNL.

Has been used in order to find translations into Dutch published before 1815.

    • etc.
