Books by 19th- and early 20th-century women, entering the KB collection now…..

Abstract

Today, the KB, the National Library of the Netherlands, collects Dutch publications and also tries to collect all the translations to and from the Dutch language. In the past, this was done differently. As the Dutch National Deposit was established in 1974, not all Dutch publications before that date were acquired, and while the KB regularly procured foreign literary works in the original language, not all translations of these works could be obtained. Today, translations into Dutch are considered far more important for the KB, as a keeper of Dutch heritage. It is, therefore, on a permanent quest to acquire missing titles. Tens or even hundreds of old Dutch books enter the KB every month, many of them written or translated by women. This small exhibition showcases a number of books by female authors from the collection of the KB, some of them acquired very recently. Here the list of titles of the books presented in the four show-cases.
