Willem-René van Tuyll van Serooskerken en visite à Colombier (mai 1799-mars 1800). Documents inédits

This article focuses on Willem-René van Tuyll van Serooskerken’s stay in Colombier with his aunt, Isabelle de Charrière, between May 1799 and March 1800. It presents extensive extracts from his travel notes, from his diary and from his letters, all these documents being presently kept in private archives. These texts are representative of the way the Dutch elite used French in the eighteenth century while at the same time shedding light on some aspects of the various connections between Switzerland and the Netherlands at the time. They are also revealing of everyday life at Le Pontet and constitute a necessary complement to Isabelle de Charrière’s educational correspondence (as published in the Œuvres complètes) by uncovering the point of view of the other protagonist of the epistolary exchange.
