“Tout ce qu’il y a d’habitants de Zuylen fut invité à Termeer – excepté moi”

Abstract in English:

Not far from Zuylen, Huis ter Meer is a truly special place. On one occasion, Belle van Zuylen accompanied Danish King Christian VII in its magnificent gardens. Belle did not visit Ter Meer often, even though it attracted many foreign travelers. During her adolescence Belle did not feel really welcome there. Later on when she lived in Switzerland, she mentioned in letters to her Dutch sister-in-law her objections regarding the pompous, rather unnatural, and too strongly French-inspired designs of the gardens.
